Estimate of additional expenditure

involved in revised Grant Code.

Paragraph 2 of your telegram under reference

not understood. I gather that only additional

expenditure involved beyond that approved for

salaries of Anglo-Chinese and vernacular teachers

in. my telegram No. 774 of 1946 is in respect of

Charge #llowances referred to in section 11 of

Revised Code. Figures of £348 and £498 appear to

bear no relation to £112.10s and £150 quoted in

that section. I find the same difficulty in

relating the figures of £317 and £427 for

overseas allowances to figures or £100 and £70

quoted in section 10 of revised Code.

I do not expect an exact estimate of increasd

expenditure, but I should like to be satisfied

as to how your figures have been calculated before

approaching Treasury.
